I have a problem with Windows movie maker not playing a movie file from a camcorder, that has been burned to a disk. I have a sony hd camcorder and bought a mac. They are not compatible, that is another story, but I luckily have a gateway laptop. Before I got the lap top I had a friend use his laptop to burn my sony movie files to a disk so I could erase my memory card and record more movie. I would like to edit my video and tried to run the disk in my laptop and it will not play in Window movie maker, or windows media player. It says Codec may be missing and gives me not further info. Help please...... reply

I use PCs from the P2 K6 era of CPUs and EDO Ram all the way up to a new purchase of Windows 7 Home Premium and already used Ultimate Vista, and while media is better supported, Windows is still behind the times with regard to include things like MPEG2, while touting it with the release of 1997 DvDs new to market, Windows 98 SE was supposed to support USB and DvD even around that time, yet for MacroMedia bought since by Adobe and sold as Flash, it’s products' former name... You need a media player that would support MPG1 and 2 along with compressed video and audio, MPG4 as well. I’ve stumbled across a free player called Wimpy for Flash, as well as SoThink, to use in place of VideoLAN, MediaPlyr Classic and WMP, however you simply can’t find ONE app to Rule Them All, and I am not a fan of WMP 11, unless perhaps in Vista’s GUI template, where it looks better. WMP 10 is the best looking old-school MS veteran, outside of any upgrades, I use WMP9 as well! This thread is 5 to 6 years old, and as things are, it’s still vety much valid concern to consumers, we prefer free to pay for everything you need, which simply “adds up” to being nothing short of “nickel and Dimed” reply
