Intel a/v codecs v2.0???

posted in Video Codecs

what the heck is this, and why is it on my installed programs list???

I was cleaning up the drive and found this on it. Is it important or could I uninstall it???

That’s most likely the i.263 codec (it’s bundled with indeo 4 and 5 too). You can remove it if you want, but when you want to view an avi with the i.263 codec you won’t be able to. There is nothing lost by keeping the codec though. It takes very little space (just a few hundred KB I believe) and doesn’t contain spyware or anything to affect your system in any way (besides showing up on the uninstall list and your video codec list). reply
