MAC: unable to play srt file even after trying guides! HELP!

Question

I’ve tried the guides which tell me to uncheck the auto-select subtitle file in VLC, i’ve renamed the avi and srt files as the same ones and i’ve manually opened the avi and srt file through file > open file >... etc but it all hasn’t worked.

VLC keeps sending me this error:

freetype: failed to load font file /System/Library/Fonts/LucidaGrande.dfont
freetype: failed to load font file /System/Library/Fonts/LucidaGrande.dfont

my subtitles encoding is set under default.

can anyone please help?? :(

do you mean convert the avi file to a bin/cue file? how do i do that?
