No video on MJPG file (.avi) in WMP11 Vista

posted in General

Hey all. I am becoming much more comfortable with working through issues since there is so much support from peers! Thanks for your hard work and diligence.

Here’s the issue (I’ve read a plethora of threads and they all have problems distinct from my own and I find the communication to be jumbled and/or deficient).

I just purchased a Sony Vaio.
I am running Vista Home Premium 32bit ServicePack1
I have WMP 11.0.6001.7110
When I dbl click on an .avi file that has been filmed on my canon Powershot A560 WMP11 plays audio, but no video. (Windows Photo Gallery is the only program on my Comp that will play it fully)
I have opened the .avi file in GSpot which revealed the following:

-Rendering the video says it can play properly (and indeed it does if I simply watch it in the windows picture viewer as opposed to media player)

-It says I have 2 codecs that are appropriate
(AVI Draw and MJPEG Decompressor)

-the Video SRC type is MJPG

-The Comments/Metadata section says:
CODE=ISFT Name=Software Contents=CanonMVI06

-Stream Type and A/V Interleave:
Type=OpenDML AVI IMRR=n.s.
I/L=Not Supported

-Video: 4CC=mjpg
Name=Motion JPEG including Huffman Tables

DirectShow Render:
Video SRC type=mjpg
Video Path=(S) --> AVI Splitter --> MJPEG Decompressor --> Color Space Converter --> (R)
Audio Path=(S) --> AVI Splitter --> (R)

I look forward to my working relationship with my Vaio and with you! Let me know if I am missing any pertinent information.
Peace to the Single Cell!! reply

It means wmp 11 cannot decode the video. you can download movie codec online or a video converter. reply
