Confused over ulead moviemaker versus ulead workshop ?

I have moviefactory 4.0 - do I need the workshop. I have not been able to finalize anything onto a dvd. My pc drive is dvd write. Do I need a special dvd to write to from moviefactory ? Is authoring software something different than moviefactory ? Anyone know of a good site/book where they walk you through creating a dvd from home digital video ? Thanks much.
