why do i get this message “only handle [S_TEXT/] subs for the moment” when i try to open an MKW file on VirtualDubMod ? reply

VirtualdubMod is unable to handle most modern MKV files. You should not use it to edit MKV files at all.

just use convertxtodvd
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/ConvertXtoDVD.htm

the program is just a trial but you can find a crack easy on the torrent sites.

you can make DVD with any movie file, all in one step. i sware this is MUCH easier than dealing with downloading 10 or 20 programs. reply

ConvertXtoDVD seems to extract the video from the mkv fine but not support/extract the subtitle .srt reply

To clarify it says: “Skipping subtitle file. Reason: Empty or unsupported format." Now when I play the file in WMP I can use the subtitles but after some research it appears ConvertXtoDVD is supposed to support the .srt format. I am confuzzled. reply

@ Deadalus : You need to extract the subs from the MKV file by using mkvextract (coming with mkvtoolnix) and mkvextract-GUI (if you dont like CLI programs), then convert them into SRT with vobsub, and either remux them into a new MKV with mkvmerge, or load the SRT subs in Convert XtoDVD as a separate file.

ConvertXtoDVD converts .mkv files, just drag and drop and hit CONVERT, simple as that! reply

@ sarah1973 : Trying to convert a MKV to AVI first, for DVD conversion, is complete rubbish. MKV is much superior to AVI and can hold audio and subtitles streams, that can not be put into AVI at all.
Follow the official way for MKV to DVD conversion, as described on the matroska.org homepage, and also here in this thread.

I have tried several time to convert, burn, view, and otherwise manipulate mkv files according to several threads posted on several forums with absolutely ZERO success.

MKV is a fucking joke and the goddamn brainless shitheads who released it without PROPERLY WORKING tools should be shot in the fucking face.

What the hell good is a format that “can hold audio and subtitles streams” if the goddamn file is like fucking Mission Impossible to get it to WORK?????? reply

as mkv files are container files is there software available to open the file to access the contained files within?? or does that not make sense.... thnx reply

Hi I’ve been using ConvertXToDvd with great success in burning mkv anime to dvd - even adding subtitles using the mkvextractgui. However when i tried burning a mkv [x264] series it wanted to take 15+ hrs to convert (usually only takes a couple of hrs).

So then I tried DvdSanta and get 'unsupported video stream' (although it works on previous mkv series - not x264). Also tried forcing Nerovision3 to burn mkv and it worked once (took 4 hrs) but the next time it wanted to take 15+ hrs again.

Avi2Dvd won’t convert the x264 mkv (it will convert other mkv series) so the last option is MediaCoder which i’m trying to get to work.

I’ve downloaded the combined community codec pack and also can play these files fine on the computer using media player classic and windows media player. Any advice? reply

Heres how to do it 100% sure...
Download winavi (view links above)
CRACK IT FIRST!!
run it and click on convert to avi.
your done :) reply

All you need to make a MKV file into a DVD and burn it to dvd is a program called (ConvertXto DVD
just down load a HD movie unrar it put bring up ConvertXto DVD add file and convert.
be sure to setup lang disc size and tell it where you want to it go. You don’t need to do all of the above. its that simple a HD file has to go on a DL 8.2 disk reply
