Just to clarify, there is no xvid pro codec. There is divx pro, but not xvid pro.
If you properly installed the codec from a reliable source like http://www.koepi.org or http://nic.dnsalias.com/xvid.html (and you had administrator privileges during the installation), then the problem isn’t with the codec.
Chances are the file is truncated or otherwise corrupt. An easy way to check is to feed the file into gspot (headbands.com/gspot). It will tell you corrupted avi header. If that’s the case, try opening the file with avipreview (avipreview.com) or media player classic (gabest.org). If gspot doesn’t recognize the file as being an avi, then it’s either corrupt beyond recovery or a fake.

i was having the same problem.. what it boiled down to was i had xvid and divx downloaded.. but not directX... directX is windows software.. and you have to validate your copy of windows to download it.. if you have a pirated copy of windows you may be S.O.L.

You could give VLC media player a try. It’s a freeware media player that plays loads of different formats including Xvid.

Download it from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
