I’m not entirely sure about this one but someone tells me that an AVI encoded with RV40 became playable after installing RealPlayer 10.
That would probably be your best bet.
PS: I’d have to see it to believe it though!! A real video file in an avi container??

dr.lecter Guest | Yes, that’s the only way. Install the “Real alternative”, and it comes with it.
Good luck!
P.S. BTW, rv40 makes 2h movie in 460MB xVID quality - impressive!

RV40 can be either Real Video 9 or Real Video 10 (they apparently use the same fourcc; interestingly, Real Player can tell them apart though).
Real Alternative or Real Player should work.

Rashao Guest | I downloaded the Real Alt and it still won’t play RV40 Files

Merecumbe Guest | Hi All
Same problem over here: VLC Player complained about the missing RV40 codec and only played the sound. Real Alternative (in Media Player Classic) plays Picture and Sound (Multi-Lang.) BUT doesn’t show the SUBs!

CaZuRaI Guest | Hey Y’all, As everyone has said you can download the Real Alt and it will play those .mkv files that seem to never work, but if you just right click on the file and say open with media player classic it’s not going to work. You have to go onto the media player click on Open File then find the video you want and TA DA. It should work perfectly and for the person who couldnt see the subs try and see if theres a secondary audio most .mkv’s have a secondary audio on them. Also, for everyone who doesn’t know where to get it: http://www.pcworld.hu/download/video/realalt160.exe. go there its automatically going to download but rest easy, it is the actually program i just got it my self well i hope that helps.
