VideoToolBox usually identifies codecs by name, rather than fourcc. You stumbled onto the fourcc MJPG (which is just plain old motion-jpeg). One of the limitations in solving your problem is the fact you’re using Windows NT 4.0. Windows NT only supports DirectX up to 3 I think. Microsoft bundles a free motion jpeg codec with DirectX 8 and higher, but you can’t really use that. I know the free QuickTime Player can natively play motion jpeg, if you don’t mind getting it. (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html) VirtualDub will also play motion jpeg. (http://www.virtualdub.org)
If you really insist on playing the file in Real Player or Windows Media Player, you may have to get a pay motion jpeg codec from one of the companies that sell them (mainconcept, pegasus imaging, morgan multimedia, lead technologies, pmatrix, among others). Many of these companies offer a free trial period for their codec.
I would like to download that codec too, but I’m having problem finding it. I don’t like using Quick Time to view those movies, please help ![]()

If you don’t have Windows NT 4.0, the simplest solution would be for you to get DirectX 9 from the Microsoft web site.
