I want to edit an avi. file on movie maker. I’ve used ImTOO DVD Ripper Platinum 5 to change a DVD into an avi. file, but this is what it tells me.

VIDEO_TS\Title_01_01.avi could not be imported. The required codec was not downloaded automatically because the Download codecs automatically check box is not selected in the Options dialog box.

What does this mean? And how do I solve this problem?

It may say Rendering Failed. THAT IS OKAY. Look at the top right of the box. It should say Codec, then underneath 4CC. The number beside it identifies the codec you need. Type in Codec ____ (the number) into google, and download the codec. Then it should work on windows movie maker. I know it seems complicated, but it’s actually quite easy. I looked for days before I found this method, but it works. For some reason though after I load the video on movie maker, for previewing it plays the clips upside down. But when you drag the clips onto the track it works fine lol. I hope this helps:D Good Luck!!!

IT works - even in Africa where most of the other advice didn’t!

Thanks!!!!

hi everyone!^^
i have a problem too with my WMV - avi file importing, but really thanks to DORUKANJI for the tip. <3 ^^

to DAJEROMA and to anybody who have this kind of trouble,

(“avi cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again."wink

all you need is to download the codec file thingy you need inorder for you to upload or import an avi files to your WMV (windows movie maker). you can find it here..

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_lite_codec_pack.htm

choose the full pack.

after the complete download, open you WMV and try to import an avi file. and it’ll surely be imported.
