Allard Guest | I had the problem and after repairing or reinstalling it persisted.
I uninstalled my Nemo codec pack via Windows Control Panel > Add and Remove Software and Premier seems cured.

Deus Guest | I have only the ACE Mega Codec Pack installed. I did discover that the Core Audio Codec causes problems with Premiere. My problem is with some .avi files. When I drag a clip from one of these .avi files into the timeline no video shows up, only a black screen. This only happens with a few .avi files, I’ve tried to figure out what the difference is between the .avi files that work and the ones that dont but I see none, same bit rates, apparently the same encoding. Has anyone had similiar problems? I’m going insane, plz help!! Thanks.

VindiCator Guest | Thanks so much for posting this and keeping it up, and to google for making it so easy to find. I thought there was something wrong with Adobe Premiere Pro!!!
I installed that Codec pac long ago and had forgot about it completely.
After disabling those “Core” codecs and filters, Adobe Premiere starts right up normally.
Thanks again!

micor Guest | I had the same problem, Premiere was working nicely until I installed “ffdshow” and the codecs with it. I uninstalled wht ffdshow and now Premiere is back up again.
Does anyone actually know why Premiere gets stuck with extra codecs? Does it try to use the latest installed? Can it be configured not to use anything else what it is supposed to use?

Sylvain Roy Guest | I’m having a similar issue with Premiere Pro. “Adobe Premiere Pro could not find any valid editing modes” After reading everything on this site I pretty sure I having a codec or driver problem. Unfortunately I can’t find the conflicting codec. Can anyone help me find the problem? Many thanks.

topcat139 Guest | Dump those crappy codec packs, just install what you need. They cause major problems. If you REALLY need that many codecs just install the latest FFDshow, and set all the codecs to on.
It handles just about any file you’ll find, allows vid and audio, plus can be used to ENcode as well.
It is compat with almost every program out there, and will NOT!!! cause filter contention.
To manage your filters give radlight filter manager a try. Set the priorities on the filters so they make sense. The codec packs install everything with NO consideration for what ever else you may already have! And they set ALL the codecs to run equally, so your system has no idea what to do with all that stuff. They slow your system to a crawl because win now has to search thru and try numerous diff. codecs till it hits on one that will work, and not necc. properly either.
