THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU! After I installed the Quicktime and itunes6 combo, my QT stopped working properly and all I got was this blown out mostly white screen during playback (but no error code or anything). Reinstalling QT didnt work (obviously) and the Apple website was no help (it makes you think your computer is missing some driver file or something). I FREAKED OUT since I had a bunch of QT files to preview before morning. Luckily I “googled” 'quicktime white screen' and came up with this thread! I tried the safe mode and everything works fine. I have no idea who you people are but GOD BLESS YOU!

Thanks TC for this ........
<snip> .......... Next I went to Quicktime Video Settings and selected “Safe Mode (GDI Only)". This will automatically disable DirectDraw and DirectDraw Acceleration for you. This solution works for me. <snip>
And for me too ..... your input saved me lots of frustration.

Exactly the same issue for me, and the “Safe Mode” solution worked great. So why did this happen? It was never a problem before, but suddenly was an issue?

I’m trying to watch a clip my friend sent me on cd and can’t open the file, it’s says the following;

QuickTime cannot open the file: “Dragon’s Den.mpg”
it is not a file that QuickTime understands (-2048)

Would somebody please be able to offer me any advice on why this is occurring? This would be a massive help,

Thank you,

Andy

have Quicktime 6.5.2 installed. It was working fine until I installed iTunes. Now whenever I try to watch a .mov file I get the message “You may experience problems playing a video track because an unknown error occurred. The number of the error is: -8992. Would you like to close the movie or continue?" When I choose continue and hit play, I can hear the file but all I get is a white screen. Whenever I try to watch Quicktime streaming like movie trailers, I now can only see a white screen but I can hear the sound

i cant get quicktime to work at all. Cant remove it and get a fatal error message when I try to install the newer version. A lot of things wont work because of the quicktime errors. Apple has no support for this whatsoever. I would never buy an apple product. If this stupid player wont work, what will then?

Same situation with the white screen, audio only and I’d love to put my quicktime in safe mode, but I have a mac and can’t follow the same keystroke pattern. Any help for a mac user wanting quicktime to work?
