i recently had to have my computer totally wiped. i got it back and it worked great, only problem NO sound on anything. speakers are all hooked up right. the guy said i may need to redownload my audio codec. but i dont know which one i need. i have windows XP anny suggestions?
If sound plays with some files, but not with others, then you’d need an audio codec. If that’s the case go here to find out which codec you’re missing.

If you hear no sound whatsoever you might be missing sound card drivers. First go to your device manager by going to run, and typing devmgmt.msc then pressing enter. Look under Sound, Video, and Game Controllers. If you don’t see your sound card listed, or you see any items with a yellow exclamation mark you may have missing drivers. In that case find out what model sound card you have then go to the manufacturer’s web site and download the drivers. (Drivers are files that allow your operating system (in this case Windows XP) to work with a specific piece of hardware)
