I searched through download.com and failed with multiple programs to convert the mpeg 4 to something I could us with Movie Maker. Came here for a little help...

em, figured it out easy peasy. get realplayerSP. it has built in conversion software, with an option specificlly to change other formats into WMV. simple.

EVERYONE : JUST RENAME THE EXTENSION !!
change the .mp4 into .avi or .wmv
100% work perfectly !!! then just drag it to your movie maker !!

all i do when using music from itunes is go into itunes itself, right click on the song you want then click create mp3, once its converted, it’s made a copy of the song in mp3 format in the same folder. easy peesy
Just change the extension .mp4 to .mpg and the .mp4 file will be amble to be imported to Windows Movie Maker...but first make a backup copy of the original MP4 file...
an easier way - right click on the song in your itunes, then click on create mp3 - it will be converted in seconds and the mp3 version will be in the same place yur itunes version is

When I try to import the music that i want it comes up with this-
The file cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.
Can i import this music (it’s off itunes) and if so how?

!!! FINAL SOLUTION !!!
There are ways to import music that hold the iTunes base format (AAC).
1. Open Up iTunes
2. Go to edit; Preferences
3. Go to IMPORT SETTINGS
4. (Usually set to AAC by default), in the encoding checkbox, select Mp3, save, then save changes.
5. Go to the track you want to use and right click
6. Select “Create Mp3 Version” (make sure to have the original version playing to distinguish the file formats from one another)
7. Once the Mp3 version has been completed, rename it "<track name>MP3 eg. ArrivalMP3
8. Open Movie Maker
9. When importing the file, select the MP3 Version
10. Import and create away!
It would also be a wise move to make a folder in your documents with all the MP3 versions in there, so copy them all to that folder, then in iTunes (so your library isn’t so messed up with duplicates) delete all the mp3s there.
NOTE: when importing a CD iTunes will now import it in Mp3 formatting, so be sure to switch it back to AAC when you are done!!!
