Media Player Classic stopped playing .avi files!

For some reason out of nowhere my Media Player Classic started crashing every time I try and play a .avi file. It was fine yesterday but all of a sudden it won’t work. The error i get is the typical windows one, “Media Player Classic has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." But other files like .mpg, .m2v work. Even though a .mkv file only audio worked, said i was missing the codec to render the video...any idea what codec i need? If someone knows how to fix this that would be very helpful. Oh and I deleted MPC and downloaded a newer version to see if that would help but it didn’t. Thanks for any help you can give me! reply

I have the same problem. I think it has something to do with the last windows security update (on vista). No fix but to use another player. reply
