help on av. file type conversion/playing on an epson p200

i recently vbought a epson p200o image storer it will play avi files but no windows media files what is the best way to take dvds or downloads and then convert them to the right file typ to be able to view, also what is the best file format it seems there are several avi type files, the epson also supports mpeg4 but not 1 or 2, which would be the smoothest option and how do i do it lol also to finish is there a site that i can download ready to go movies in the correct file format suuitable for viewing on my epson.
