HELP! I WANT TO PLAY MY MOVIE DOWNLOADS

HELP!!!!!! I have so many downloaded movies in mpeg and avi format, but they won’t play on my dvd player once I burn them. How can I convert them to play. In laymen’s terms please. I’m the worst at following computerese.

help me please i download alien vs predator and i cant not find the pass word for the movies and one is a custom avi and the other is a r5 dvdrip divx-ltt.avi. please help me i am new at this.
