AVI Language Problems

I downloaded an avi file of a tv programme and it said Dual ESP-ENG so I thought that I might be able to change the language settings to english. I first opened the file in Media Player Classic and it just had spanish audio and I couldnt find any langauge settings. Then I opened it in Windows Media Player and It played both audio languages together, so it still wasn’t watchable. I tried changing the audio langauages in Windows Media Player but it still never worked! There must be a way to set one langauge if they are both there. Can any one help me?
Thanx! reply

Hey Thanks, TopsyTurvey, that was great advice and I went a step further and uninstalled WMP! Life shouldn’t be so difficult. I love the VLN player and I’m glad I didn’t delete the videos with the multiple tracks. reply

I have one French-speaking avi video file whose original audio language is English (for example, Taken 2008). Does anyone know any softwares (e.g.
editors, converters, or creators) that are capable of changing French back to English (original language) from the video file, or know how to fix the language problem? Kindly give me your answer through my email. Thanks! Thanks! reply

Maybe you need convert avi to other video format(eg:.wmv), when you convert the avi file, in the “advance” settings, you can select the language.
Give you a tool: WinMPG Video Convert
URL for download:

Good luck! :) reply

Normally a movie has an Audio track and Video track for the same length. A movie can have multiple Audio tracks but only one video track. The Audio tracks can be another languages or comments on the scenes during the video track.

In VLC choose Audio and then Audio track, if you see multiple tracks then the movie could have different languages and if you don’t then the movie has only one Audio track and language therefore. reply

Virtual Dub may be useful with multiple language avi:
1) open the avi in virtual dub,
2) go to [audio>select stream] and select one of the multiple streams.
3) try to play the avi in virtualdub, to check if you have choosen the correct language
4) setup virtual dub to [audio>direct stream copy]
5) setup virtual dub to [video>direct stream copy]
6) select menu [file>save as avi..] and give new file name
it will prepare quite quickly a new (of course smaller size) avi with only one language that you selected, without video quality loss

notes:
- this is only for people that don’t need to keep saved a multilanguage avi.
- i am not sure, but i feel it is a bad idea to give to new file the same name of the multilanguage one
- 10 minutes ago i used virtual dub for maybe the second time in my life. i think it is quite intuitive for simple operations such i just described. forgive me if i was too synthetic on describing steps.
- forgive my barbarian english. reply

This is all very sad. Iíve noticed in the last couple of years these multi languages have been creeping into avi uploads god knows why as 90 % of people donít know how to get it back to just English it uses up more file space too because youíre sticking another useless language in. If a few years ago they were only English avis why all of a sudden have uploaders made life miserable for 90% of people who canít change the language.

I am using Vlc player and gom player and when you select the stream on alot of these it usually has only 1 stream of audio rarely do you find 2 where you can just click onto audio 2 & hear English but oh no now you have to hear multiple languages on one audio track according to vlc player and gom player. I believe this is a deliberate way for the manufactures to sabotage the downloading industry.

Who want to waste time converting a movie back to the original way it was with no doubt 2nd generation loss of data of visual quality no doubt. Why should we waste the time either the uploaders should be known for the trolls they are in uploading multi languages or there should be a new player now that displays many audio 1 2 3 4 etc on each stream as vlc and gom player are now antiques in this multi language bug and havenít revolutionized as fast to overcome this terrible plague.

I trust this will be approved to be posted as my comments are very relevant! reply

I just tried your little ANY video converter & it doesn’t remove the multi-languages they are still both together on the same stream. I even selected English for language I am now going to try and convert it to mpeg 1 instead of avi. Maybe that will do something. Maybe i need the Div 3 codec or do we only need these codecs if we are playing it on windows media player.

If i burn the original avi multi language file to disc maybe my DVD player can just select languages even though my computer can’t??? maybe media player or some conflict on my media player is preventing me from switching language streams???

I give up life shouldn’t be made this hard why did uploaders have to put on other migrant languages they should all just learn English. reply
