okay, don’t really remember when it started happening.. because at first i thought it was just some weird video file, then i realized that not only is it every video file (with an exception every now and then) but also every player plays movies in red, no matter the extension. players i’ve used are winamp, wmp11, VLC and... that’s it actually. 
sounds like a codec problem m8

I too have this problem.
System Specs :
AMD 3500+ AM2
2GB RAM
2*7950gt Sli
800Gb hard drive’s
Audigy 2 ZS sound card
Windows Media Centre 2005 SP2 incl all updates.
I have only got Divx installed which I have removed, reinstalled, system restored etc, which didn’t help!
Just tried what you have mentioned above and still does not help!

didn’t work for me either..
although, it’s weird. prior to trying this, and possibly even now still i’m not sure, some movies would play reddish, but if i was watching a playlist of movies some would play in normal color, and some would play reddish, and it was never consistent.
windows movie maker is rubbish, even if you have the codec ereths no guarantee that it will work, you better off using a different prog altogether like Nero vision Express is simpler and easier to use
