VLC and Subtitles - AUDIO WON'T ALLIGN TO TEXT

Hey all.

I’ve ripped City of God to my mac hard drive and downloaded a variety of English subtitles for the film. My problem is trying to align the text and the audio, as it’s currently about 5 seconds apart from each other.

I’ve tried ripping the dvd at variable frame rates but that doesn’t seem to make a difference.

Any suggestions?
