I was able to copy .mod files directly from my JVC Everio onto my computer, rename as .mpg and they now work in Windows Movie Maker, they have both audio and visual. Thank goodness. However, the new .mpg file will only play audio when I double click it to see it in Windows Media Player. Any fixes for this? (I’m using Vista.)

Hi,
I think i found the solution
MOD files are MPEG2, so i renamed them to . mpg
IT WORKS
But i think you have to installe AC3 filter, you can proberbly find it on the web, but i have installed DJBCP codec pack, this is a (LARGE)collection of free codecs http://www.free-codecs.com/download/DJBCP_Codec_Pack.htm
i did this and it worked perfectly fine! thanks Schumi! :D
You need to convert Mod and moi file to WMV which format widows movie maker can support.
if you want to edit mov videos or moi file, Video Editor can achieve it without conversion. and you can check the guide to edit and convert mov video here: http://www.wondershare.com/video-editor/how-to-edit-mov-videos.html
I recently bought the JVC Everio GZ-MS215. I know all too well about the horrible .mod files that plague it. I have tried renaming to .mpg etc, but that causes XP’s Windows Explorer to have a fit and crash. Movie Maker hates renamed files, video conversions don’t help with quality. I should have forked out the extra couple of hundred dollars earlier on when they had tape camcorders for sale. Then I wouldn’t be in this mess. Now, I have to fork out another 200+$ for Windows 7 to be able to edit files with Live Movie Maker. What a joke1
Hello everybody,
My sisters wedding-clips are all MOD and MOI formats. She wants me to create her wedding video. I work with the programm pinacle studio plus version 12. Can this work there?

I renamed my video to .mpg but it still doesn’t work. i can see it at the windows media player, and in “the lobby” of my windows movie maker but when i add it to the video there is just a black picture with the sound of my video. please help me
Dude, just import all the mods into WMM.This is how: 1.Open WMM 2.Click import video 3. Change the little scroll box to (.) all files* 4. Import the .mod’s 5. Click publish. 6. Done! Now you have a WMVA! Hope this helps
omg thank you soooo much! this really helped. we learned this in my tech first semester, but i forgot all about the file extension name...thanks again!
Hey, windows movie maker cannot recognize MOD videos directly, because, windows movie maker only support video files in .asf, .avi, .wmv format.
So, first you should convert your video to windows movie maker supported video format. as far as i know, MOD is in the high quality, you can convert mod to hd avi or wmv with snowfox total video converter and then import into WMM to edit it.
cmealor, i had the same problem. first i converted my MOD file to AVI, and then RENAMED the AVI file to MPG, and it worked fine!
hope this helps.
