I recorded an avi file using a screen recorder, and for some reason nothing will play it and windows movie maker won’t import it. I wasn’t sure if it was just the file type, so i tried importing a different .avi file and it imported just fine, so then i thought maybe it was the screen recorder, so I recorded another clip and tried to import it, and it worked and Windows Media Player would play it. However, when I try to import that one file, a message comes up and says that it can’t be imported. It doesn’t say anything about a codec, it simply says that one file can’t be imported. Is there anyway to fix that?

Are you using camtasia? I’d guess you recorded into .camrec format instead of avi and that won’t be readable in movie maker. Use camtasia studio in your start menu to convert it back to avi and work from there. If you don’t recall toggling between camrec and avi as your output format when recording, it could be that the file is a botched capture and/or is corrupt.
