It’s very simple. Open the file in VirtualDub, then choose video, filters. Choose null transform, then click on cropping to select the region. Then go to video, choose compression, pick a codec to encode the file with, and click configure to adjust the encoding settings to your own liking (If you don’t do this it will save the video file uncompressed, which is HUGE). Then click file, save as avi. reply

I tried VirtualDub, it gives Error Code -100 if i select the Xvid codec, and gives and gives Error code -2 if i select DivX codec. The Video is absolutely fine. If i use Microsofts MPEG4 codec, it gives no error, but i want to use Xvid. I think there is some problem between Virtualdub and Xvid codec. Exactly same happens in VirtualDubMod. reply

Abhijit123, its because you have to make the cropping a multiple of 2, I got the same error, because 2 of the 4 sides where brought in at odd numbers.
Hope thats helps. reply

As for me best tool for cropping video files (avi, wmv) is VidCrop
http://www.geovid.com/VidCrop/

This app is able to
- cut parts of a video,
- customize file size, frame rate, resolution, etc..

Has free trial. Have a look. reply

VidCrop supports all the video formats depending on video codecs installed, so VidCrop can easily work with avi, asf, mp4, mpg, mpeg, mov, wmv and others. Re encoded output video file would be avi or wmv and it will be controlled with width, height, frames per second and other codec properties. reply
