The download is 'NetShow Player', but most modern versions of Windows Media Player will detect it and override it when it’s installed, so its main practical use is to harvest the bundled codecs.
The following Video codecs are included:
MPG4: Microsoft MPEG-4 version 1
TR20: Duck TrueMotion RT
UCO ClearVideo
VDOM: VDONet VDOWave
VIVO: Vivo H.263
Since the player was created before Windows Media Player, it will associate itself with the asf extension. This is easily remedied by starting Windows Media Player, going to tools, options, file types, and checking the asf box and clicking apply.
