WMP sound problem

I am running WMP w/ FFDshow and when ever I go to play a movie the background sounds comes through just fine, its the characters voices that i can barely hear. I have been searching and searching trying to find a solution to this problem. BTW it this problem only happens when I play DVD’s when I am playing a downloaded video or what ever it does not happen. please help
