unfortunatly, before i read your solution i installed a shit load of third party codecs, which have subseqently messed up my OS.

Hi, I have downloaded the codec but the volume is way too low, i can hardly hear it and all volume controls are up max.
I have gone into the master volume control via the icon in the control pannel but this doesnt seem to do much. I think it may be because my lap top speakers are set quiet anyway. Can anyone help please?

Hey all. Im kinda new to these video codecs and stuff. I have one problem i can’t work around. Now, i’m not entirely sure i can play .avi files from the game Dawn of War. I need to play them and edit them for school (in year 12 FTV). When i play them using DivX it says i possibly need an additional video decoder to play the file. In the error msg it also says, “The file contains a track in an unknown format (code """"winkformat. you may need to install a directshow decoder for thi video file to play." Now, remembering i’m kinda lost with all this, i have tried out a directshow decoder but it still doesn’t play. i’ve installed codec packs with.avi codecs 3ivX etc etc but nothin works. How can i watch them without actually playing the game they are tied too? (I’ve duplicated the original copies of the video files too).

Oh, and by the way, sound is fine. there isn’t a problem with sound.

Many thanks for the solution. DivX player was saying I’d have to install DirectShow to fix it, which my priveleges on this machine wouldn’t allow. This audio codec did just the trick.

Thanks again.
