I am trying to find the Indeo V5 codec for WinXP. Since it was installed free on preXP Windows OSs, I would rather not have to pay Ligos for it. I found V5.11 at www.ipclan.us but it appears to be incomplete (WinXP does not recognize the exe as valid). I have V5.05 on a Win2K system but have no idea how to get WinXP to recognize the dll as an installed codec. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.
My Grandkids all of a sudden can’t play their games-says I need Indeo v5 codec-new puter has xp-don’t seem fair to have to pay just right out of the blue for the dang thing ! I don’t play ball so I don’t understand what “just left of center field” means ?? Could I get a little help to understand where and how to find this codec to download ? Please ! Grandkids is getting VERY frustrated, me even more so , since I’m about computer ignorant here !!!!! I’d appreciate ANY help you guys, GP
You can download the Indeo (aka Intel) V5 codec for FREE from the following location
I should add the this codec works with Windows XP so should provide Scot with what he’s looking for.
I am hoping it will solve your problems to Granny P.
The download installs the following files:
The file details are:
English: codinstl.exe Download
Ver: 1.0 Date: 4/26/1999 Size: 1817 (KB) Time @56Kbps: 4.21 min.
OS: Windows* 2000, Windows* 95, Windows* 98, Windows* 98 SE, Windows* Me, Windows* XP Home Edition, Windows* XP Professional
Oh , Thank You very very much SOS ! Your very kind! The Grandkids and I really appreciate you taking the time and trouble to help us out . Thanks again, GP
Thank you sos. The Intel codec install also worked for me on XP.
Thx SOS much also as it works for my XP also~!
I’m glad to hear it worked...
I like so many others, am having a problem with my logitech quickcam 4000 Pro. Even when i install the latest version of the quickcam software, i get the HVideoS error.
I’ve tried re-installing 7.21 and applying the patch. That still didn’t work. After that, I downloaded the package you recommend from Intel’s site. Still no effect.
I am running Windows XP Professional. I’ve reinstalled video AND audio drivers, but it still won’t work.
One note: when i initially installed the cam about 9 months ago, it worked fine. But so much has changed on my system.
An important question: Is the version of the Indeo Codec you list 5.2? or is it 5.0 or 5.1.
It seems 5.2 is necessary for XP, although i note most people here found your recommended file worked. I’m being sent from Logitech to Dell, etc but nothing they recommend works.
thanks SOS for saving me a few quid. u is a star!!!
Cheers SOS, happy kids, 15$ in my pocket rather than Ligos.

PS - any idea why MS stopped including the codec? just another attempt to control everything?
