I can't play wmv files! Can anyone help?

ADVERTISEMENTS

I recently installed a codec pack and couldn’t uninstall it (it was “XP Codec Pack”). Since then I can’t seem to play any wmv files that use codecs such as wmv2, wmv3 and wvc1.

My machine isn’t exactly clean I’ve installed a few codec packs over the years but I don’t want to reformat, I just want to get Microsoft files playing for now until I buy my new PC next year.

Can anyone please help me? (I use Media Player Classic by the way.) reply

Bing Bang, welcome to MovieCodec.com!

Have you tried installing a newer version of Windows Media Player? If you do so, it might fix the codec errors while installing. At least I think it’s worth a try. reply

Thanks Bjarne.

I’ve never installed Windows Media Player and I really don’t want to. I don’t generally like Microsoft applications, and Windows Media Player is really bloated and intrusive and I don’t want to put it on my machine. I remember when I first installed Windows there was some old version of it on my machine and it took me forever to get it off my machine and to stop my files playing with it. I hate the thing! :D

BB,

You’re right about that thing being bloated and all. It has 1000 functions but most people only use one or two of them.

Try another non-microsoft player perhaps?
