Ok.
1. got some .AVI files.
2. put subtitles on them (w/ SubtitlestheEditor for Mac)
3. save new files as .MOV (w/ Submerge for Mac, exporting to any other format leads to very low-res video)
4. transcode .MOV file with subtitles to .AVI (tried w/ many different apps)
5. subtitles DO NOT show up in the final .AVI file!!
How can I transcode my subtitles .MOV files to .AVI? Please help!

You can have a try download a trial version of the Brorosft Video Conveter to transcode your MOV videos to AVI. My friend used this product for almost 1 year. It works well.
