I just got a lot of video fromh my friend, which he dumped to his Mac using iMovie. Now, he wants me to make a final edit of the material. I’m using XP. I am able to view the clips using the VLC player, but there is no way that either Premiere or Vegas will accept the files.
Does anyone know a solution to this problem?

Premiere and Vegas supports AVI/MPEG files well. You need to transcode your friends' videos to AVI/MPEG via some third party program , such as Brorsoft Video Converter so that Adobe/Premiere can deal with.
