@Simns

Threaten him, thats how he replies to me, I threaten him to take action if he does not reply.

Say something like this:

Please reply otherwise I will be forced to take further action against you.

@kdrakon

I reccommend these players but for the video, small video clips are the best otherwise you will ahve to split movies into smaller segments which would be a hastle as you will end up with LOADS of sengments

@Peter Hong

Hi Peter,

I’m interested in buying the same unit you already buyed from ebay.

So I hope you’ll be so kind to answer some questions:

1) can you understand from the documentation that came with your unit which company produces that MP4 Player?

2) do you know where you can find OFFICIAL support (driver, firmware etc.) for that product?

3) Does the MP4 Player looks exactly like in the Ebay auction. Can you eventually post a photo of your unit???

Thank You in advance! :)

Marco

By the way thank You for your helpful site. If I’ll buy the MP4 Player I’ll join it for sure! reply

@ marcocale

I’ll be happy to answer your questions:

1) can you understand from the documentation that came with your unit which company produces that MP4 Player?

There is currently NO information about the company that produces these players.

2) do you know where you can find OFFICIAL support (driver, firmware etc.) for that product?

There is NO official support for these MP3 Players...you will have to rely on others experience for help.

3) Does the MP4 Player looks exactly like in the Ebay auction. Can you eventually post a photo of your unit???

It does look exactly liek the one from the picture except the quality of the picture is not as great as on the picture. But its the same with all marketing...they put a image ont he screen instead of taking a picture of the proper screen.

Hope that helps

@Simns

Threaten him always works, lol...its the same with all sellers, even out of ebay. They will only listen if you threaten to take further action :)

@Singapore

When you are installing the codecs...there will be a screen which asks you what type to do you want to install...

I think some options are like:

Minimum
Custom
Hyper
Professional, etc

Choose 'Hyper' as it installs ALL of the codecs. This will save you time by not having to select each tick box

Hope that helps

I wrote my own conversion software, based upon the ffmpeg and lame libs (requires Windows environment). It is capable of file batch-processing and supports multithreading.

It converts from avi, mp1 and mp2 to DMV- or MTV-format. for those of you who are interested i post some format specifications (I had to do some reverse engineering to work them out).

The frame rate depends on the samplerate of the audio stream and the size of the audiosegment. There are some formulas at the end of the specifications to compute that.

The issue that troubled the original poster (heard audio far away and some strange distortion in the foreground) is because of the 12 leading zero-bytes at the beginning of each audio subsegment: if those 12 zero bytes are missing, it sounds exactly like that.

Another issue for pragrammers is, that all image frames must be placed with a delay of approx. 6 frames in relation to the audio stream. Otherwise video and audio will not play synchron.

Kind regards, Stefan

MTV-Format specifications:
Some of the header information is still unclear, but uncritical as long as the provided default values are used.
------------------------------------------------
[header] fix size of 512 byte

0x00 3 string constant 'AMV' -> 0x41 0x4d 0x56

0x03 4 file size (sometimes only estimated, see 'formulas'-section)
0x07 4 number of 512 byte segments: =(int)(filesize/512)

0x0b 7 string constant 'ACTIONS' -> 0x41 0x43 0x54 0x49 0x4f 0x4e 0x53
0x12 1 ??may be string termination of 0x0b and therefore 0x00

0x23 1 ??? most of the time 0x21
0x28 1 ??? most of the time 0x02

0x2b 3 string constant 'MP3' -> 0x4d 0x50 0x33
0x2e 2 ??? 0x40 when big img 0x80 when small img, sometimes also 0

0x30 3 colorformat either 0x05-0x05-0x05 or 0x05-0x06-0x05

0x36 2 image height 0x60 -> 96 or 0x40 -> 64

[audiosegment]
size according to [header@0x3e]
bitrate: either 64kbps or 128kbps
samplerate: always 44100

audiosegemnts are segmentet within themselves:
each subsegment has 512 byte size, where the first 12 byte are always 0-byte
mp3-frame is neither aligned within subsegment nor within segment.
(they are cutted 'hard' whenever a subsegment border appears).

[videoframe]
size according to [header@0x38]
bits per pixel according to [header@0x33]
color format according to [header@0x30]
image width according to [header@0x34]
image height according to [header@0x36]
line order: first line last, last line first
column order: first column first, last column last

some forumulas:
fps = audio_bitrate * 128 / audio_segment_size
audio_bitrate = fps * audio_segment_size / 128
audio_segment_size = audio_bitrate * 128 / fps

estimated_filesize = header_size + (seconds * fps * (img_size + audio_segment_size))
estimated_filesize = header_size + (seconds * audio_bitrate * 128 / audio_segment_size * (img_size + audio_segment_size))
estimated_filesize = header_size + (seconds * fps * (img_size + (audio_bitrate * 128 / fps)))

ideal settings may be:
- audio(80kb,1024seg), 10 fps -> 400MB/800MB
- audio(40kb, 512seg), 10 fps -> 384MB/768MB
- audio(48kb, 512seg), 12 fps -> 460MB/920MB reply

Just one supplemental:

It is no problem at all to convert long videos. I allready converted hours of videos with the software (Star Wars Episode IV for example) in one peace!

Thanks for the info! You seem very knowledgeable with video converting. Have you made some sort of software to convert MTV? Because I dont get what all that data means, please reply with more info

Yes, that was exactly what I tried to say!
Sorry for beeing not clear enough (bad language skills).

In first case I intended to provide the software as freeware to the public. But this has proved to be critical in terms of patent infringements (MPEG2 and MP3).

Because of the use of ffmpeg and lame libs, it does not require any codec or any DirectX stuff. It simply bringts everything with it, that is necessary for conversion.

It consists of three files:
dmv.exe main application
avformat.dll ffmpeg-lib
avcodec.dll ffmpeg-lib

alltogether approx. 3 MB

The conversion tool would make a nice product of its own, but I’m still undecided how to distribute it.

@ Stefan Burger

WOW! Please if you have spare time to make the software. That would be awesom and will probably help ALL those who have bought one.

If you do make it, please keep us informed about the software. Thanks

Kind regards

@Peter:

If you are interested, I can provide you one copy of the software for evaluation purposes.

But you must agree not to forward it to any other partie and not to make it public available.
