Sorry, have to double post in order to correct some of my info. When I said “similar in step 1” in step 5, I actually meant to put: similar in step 2. reply

Umm a easier thing to do is if you have Nero Wave Editor just open up the MP3 file that wont play with nero wave editor and then save it again over the orignal as .mp3pro which is a option within the program , thats what i done and worked like a charm. reply

hi..even though alot of solutions have been given, id just like to ask someone to please give me 1 simple solution thats tried and tested.i have windows media player 9, and though it plays most of my movies it doesnt play quite a few. it keeps saying “Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." i tried zelda cool’s “Combined-Community-Codec-Pack-2005-06-19.exe” but that didnt work either.pls help reply

Hi all,

I found that problem too, can’t play several mp3s in WMP even though it works fine in Winamp.

I found this site http://www.thisbeitz.com/archives/2004/11/22/c00d1199-error/

Its actually very very easy! Just use winamp or other players to open the file, then delete/add missing ID3tags. In my case I delete or leave the ID3v2 untouched but then add info in the ID3v1 tag.

Voila! It works in WMP now. reply

I just found the solution to this... I was having the same problem, and it was taking forever to figure out what was wrong. I knew that I had done something to cause it because it was working earlier in the day, I removed some stuff, and next thing I knew, it stopped working completely. I looked through all of these forums and I couldn’t figure out what was wrong until I remembered the one codec pack that I had accidently removed. If you run this, it should fix the problem for most of you I think...

http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Codec_Pack_download.htm

Follow the instructions and uninstall everything that it asks to uninstall. I hope this works for everyone else like it worked for me. :) reply

If you have winamp, right click on the file in the winamp window. Then choose File Info, it will open up a new dialog box.

On the left is the Id3_V1, on the right is Id3_V2. If you have problems playing that file, usually it’s because the file has an Id3_v2, but no Id3_V1.

So you can either add info on the Id3_V1 OR delete Id3_v2.

It works for me coz i have both winamp and wmp. The songs usually plays on my winamp but not on my wmp. After I change the tags, it works on both. I don’t know how to change the tags using other players.. hope this helps! reply

I’ve had this problem with both C00D1197 and C00D1199 and this is the easiest fix I’ve found. I downloaded Winamp free from download.com and installed it. Right click on the song title that has the codec problem and go down to “open with”, Winamp will be in the drop down menu. Once the song begins playing, go to the song title in Winamp’s Playlist Editor and right click on it again. Go down to “view file info. . ." This will bring up a box. Uncheck “ID3v1” or “ID3v2” or both and at the bottom of the box click “Update”. The song should play in MediaPlayer now. At least this fix has always worked for me. reply

Sorry, Yanni, I didn’t realize there was a second page to this thread until I had already posted my reply. Wish I’d seen your response before. It would have saved me a lot of time. reply
