wont play .MPE files

posted in File Types

i recently downloaded some videos that will not play. Windows media (updated to the fullest, most recent) tries to download codecs and then says it does not recognize the file type (class not registered). Same happened when i tried RAdlight and BSplayer. Nothing seems to work. DOes anyone know a codec that would alleviate this problem?
Surprisingly, it says the same for one mpg file, and those always work. I tried playing it on my friends pc, where it plays the sound, but does not show the video. What should i do? I do have divx codec 5.03 installed. Thnaks. reply

I too have this problem, but assocated with some avi files.

I’d appreciate the fix.

Tks, Bob

Just save the file to your desktop, and add a 'g' at the end of the extension to make it “mpeg'. My computer (Powerbook G4 - Apple) recognized it as an MPEG file right away and opened it with Quicktime. Easy. reply

REFORMAT!!! Don’t listen to the pepole who tell you to just delete and defrag. There are lots of pepole who can recover deleted files. reformatting the drive and re-installing windows will COMPLETELY wipe the system.. reply
