I have downloaded topfield recorded TV programs to my PC. They are XXX.rec files. Nothing seems to recognise or be able to play these files.
Can anyone give me advice please???
I have the same problem. I once managed to play them downloading a free codec collection from the internet (it was called ASC or so). But the real question is how to convert them into mpg or avi? Anybody can help please?
VideoReDo (http://www.videoredo.com/) is what you need, or MPEG Streamclip (free http://www.squared5.com/ )
go to www.videolan.org
download vlc media player this free software plays every movie type.. including topfield rec files..
This will convert them to avi or mp4
I have a simple way of doing this. Download PVAStrumento from www.offeryn.com. This is freeware and very simple to use. The program is just a .exe and doesn’t need installing. Open your .rec file and then click the button “make ps”. When you give it a filename, you have to add .mpg as the extension. Once it converts and it’s very fast, you’ll then have the .rec as a .mpg which you can then burn to dvd or convert to .avi etc.
Windows has an actoipapiln called Windows Movie Maker, you should be able to watch it there. Maybe you should get a Facebook or Myspace account and upload your videos to them. Or, even Youtube.com
Even renaming the file XXX.rec to XXX.ts might help... I think .rec and .ts are almost the same.
