jj2005, yes, but most people don’t have $1,299 to spend to get final cut pro. ImoveHD works just fine. But i’ve tried everything mentioned here, and nothings worked... plus, i’ve tried tons other things, nothing seems to work. I simply can’t get them to the mpeg-2 format from the .mod format... reply

Go get MPEG Streamclip for Mac OS X, it is free and it will solve all your problems.

you still have to buy a quicktime plugin for $20 to have playback. reply

I have OS X 10.4.11 Tiger. I have a new JVC Everio HD camcorder and although I have no problem downloading the still shots, I am unable to even view the video much less save it to my computer.
Following the manual to the letter I created a new folder on my desktop as it suggested and dragged the files from the Everio icon to the new folder then put the Everio icon in the trash. When I opened the movie folder (and all others for that matter), the extensions are MOI and MOD. Opening any of these gave me an error message that tells me these are not movie files.
I read a great many posts here and changed the MOI and MOD extensions to MPG. When I opened any of these, they opened in QuickTime and STILL gave me the message that these are not movie files.
Prior to changing the extensions, the MOD files opened in Big Bang by default and that is of no help to me.
I can watch my video just fine on the camera and on my television but not on my iMac. This is very frustrating. reply

hey all!!

its a great camera, it totally sparks me up.

if you have a mac, just plug it in and pull the files through imovie, takes 2 mins and you don’t have to change the sound or mod files. reply

How to Convert Mod to MP4, MPG, MPEG, AVI, MP4, DivX, XviD, MP3 on Mac

Some models of the JVC, Panasonic and Canon Digital Camcorder record videos to .MOD video format. JVC camcorders sometimes produced small .MOI files which contain time stamp information associating with MOD files.

As a matter of fact, the MOD files that the JVC camera produces are really just MPEG-2 files. It’s reported that simply renaming the extension from .MOD to .AVI or .MPG, then you can convert MOD files to .AVI or .MPG. But sometimes, there is no sound, or videos distort when you open the .AVI files.

Is there an easy way to solve that problem? It is not a problem since Mod Converter for Mac - iSkysoft video converter for Mac hits the market.
