I downloaded a episode of The Unit from ITunes yesterday. I tried playing it on ITunes and on Quicktime but both were very choppy and the audio was not matching the video. I downloaded VLC and when I played it, there was no sound or video, but the progress bar was acting as if the video was being played.
The file extension is .m4v
Thank you! VLC media player worked like a charm.
I was also receiving error -8971. I tried to update WinAmp, Quicktime, Codec 4 Windows Media player etc and received sound, no pic. Finally tried VLC Media play and it works! Thanks again for your advice!
i think its crap, i tried all the methods, exhausting each possible scenario with the preision of ockhams razor and found out that nothing willl make my winap play .mp4 videos, shame cause i wanted to hear it played back thru dfx audio... very big shame indeed, vlc audio is good fr video but the sound of the audio kinda sucks... oh well hanx for the help anyways...
I bought a Sanyo Xacti digital video camera that records on SD cards and all video is in .MP4 MPEG-4 format. I can’t believe that Windows Media Player has elected not to support MP4 and Quicktime does not fully support it?

for to be able to watch at a movie in format iso image files it’s necessary to install a virtual cd/dvd-rom in your computer, put the iso file into and open it with a powerDVD and that’s it. it’s not so hard how it seems. best of luck!
Yes hello :)
Regarding playing an MP4 File .
Well I myself, tried hard to play a file format wich was registered whit an Professional Video Camera
The File format is an MP4 .
I tried anything but it is ain`t goin`..
Whit VLC or Winamp the image can be seen.
But the Sound is missing... i read more above there is an Xvid codecs witch solves the Probmlem.. but no way ...
So felows.. do you got any reasonable solution playing an MP4 video format Video and Audio :) ?
Thx.. i`ll be gled to know...

the owner of the professional video camera probly has a cd with the software to play the videos - borrow that disc, d/l the software and you should be good to go.
if the owner wont lend you the disc, at least he/she might give you the make/model # of the camera - then see if you can d/l the software from the mfg’s website, or call the company, see if you can lie them into sending you the cd (“i bought the camera on vacation in maui, got stoned, lost the sales receipt”)
I’ve just downloaded a movie with a mp4 extension that doesn’t work in any of my players that i have in my com, When I am trying to play the file it is showing some error (Unrecognized format for 'D:\Jimmy\jimmy.mp4.003'- ffmpeg error: Seeking too far : EOF?
ffmpeg error: av_open_input_stream failed
ps error: cannot peek
