Does any1 know how to play .mkv with h.264 codec? reply

Feedback

i have a question: i couldn’t play this .mkv file i had (named - zx.ah.my.goddess.movie.part1.mkv). i tried to use a decrompressor to change it from .mkv to .avi, but i read an error message stating that it "...could not render video stream..."

is this because i am missing some obscure codec? i have d/l’d the matroska pack, and it still isn’t recognized on any type of player i have.

appreciate any help! reply

Ok I have no idea how much better these mkv codecs are but it can’t be that much better.

1. I can’t tell the difference by looking at it except for the fact that it starts to lag because I don’t have the correct codecs.
2. When I finally get it running in the media player classic the option for the subtitles goes blank.
3. I can turn off the subtitles in the vlc media player but it lags in that.
4. What the f***?
5. I don’t want to download any more damned players or codec packs because I already have the Ace Mega Codecs Pack installed.
6. Now I have to reinstall all kinds of crap.
7. No, I don’t care that I’m lazy and didn’t read. I’m not going to read through five pages of nonsense.
8. Why yes, I did post to complain.

Anyway... After uninstalling everything, I started clean and reinstalled that Ace Mega Codecs Pack with the BS Player. That finally got it working except for a new weird error that I’ve never seen before. Iâm sure itâs just some option in the settings. You might as well get the codec pack yourself and install every friggen codec and player because everyone likes to use so many damned different ones all the time. reply

Perhaps the answer that all of you are looking for can be found at

http://www.kickassanime.org/wiki/index.php?title=CCCP

Basically this page includes a codec pack with recommended players, and codecs designed to play back 90% or more video files including H.264 that have been approved by several of the larger fansubbing groups to play their releases. The page includes a spot to download the Combined Community Codec pack, and a FAQ incase you continue to have problems. The FAQ has useful information about removing older codecs if necessary altho doing a clean install (no codecs installed) is recommended. I personally use this codec pack with the included Zoom Player and also Media Player classic is supported. My only current issue is not being able to play h.264(avc) files, but this is because my PC is not fast enough to decode them.(P4 Required to decode and playback h.264/avc). The Combined Community Codec Pack Or CCCP allows playback of all fo these codecs:
DIVX
XVID
MPEG4-10 or h.264/avc
Matroska
OGM
WMV9

Anyway that Codec pack is the current best I’ve found and the above listed website contains all the information you may or may not need to know about the pack and and exactly what it does.

Best of Luck,

Stop using Windows Mediaplayer.

Install either Zoomplayer, MPC, Bsplayer or TCMP

Im using win98se. During the MKVpack installation i encountered a 'runtime error!'. what is the problem? can anyone help please? thanks. reply

Win9X is not supported anymore in hte 'full pack'. Install the 'lite pack' and try to find decoders for 9x supporting the video and audio streams in your MKV file.

As last measure, try VLC (http://videolan.org)

Scott, i guess you also mailed to the matroska-users list ? I fear your MKV contains Realvideo (RV9/10), and to my knowledge you have only one chance playing such a file on Win9x :

Install the old 1.0.3 matroska pack (archived on packs.matroska.org)
Install RealAlternative (Google is your friend)
Use Mediaplayer Classic from http://sf.net/projects/guliverkli

Christian,
Yes, i mailed. Recommended me to use older versions (1.0.x). Tried, but the same RunTime error occured. I installed RealAlt, which means I skipped the 1st step [Install the old 1.0.3 matroska pack (archived on packs.matroska.org)]. However I Tried to run the file with MediaPlayerClassic,
A warning/report was given:

can you tell me anything regarding this? thanks again! reply

Looks like this MKV does contain MPEG2 video ? Did you run matroskadiag.exe already on this file, or mkvinfo ? I need to now the codec ID for stream 0 (=1), starting with 'V_xxxxx' . I expect it to be 'V_MPEG_xxyz” .

If so, did you try playing the file in VLC 0.8.2 already ? It should run fine on Win)x and has support for MPEG2 in MKV since ever

The audio go before than the video or things like that are more likely because your computer isn’t fast enought to process the video in real time. Probabily it is the new h.264 video format.

It has nothing to do with Matroska. Matroska isn’t an new format of video, only a new container. It is explained in www. reply
