MKV SUCCESS
I downloaded the MATROSKA Full PAck
and it solved all my problems - Windows media player gave a warning as it started - I ignired the warning and my sound, picture and subtitles worked just fine

I was having a problem with having no audio too under the 6.4.9.0 version. I read thru this and tried Prince of NY’s advice and it worked!!

I used the Lazy Manâs MKV codec pack

MKV files ... oh joy. 6am and still no sleep. See the methods that i’m reading about to try and play/convert NKV files are all well and good, but it involves me download a shit load of codecs i simply dont have. For example, i download a new player... but neeed lots of codecs and oh moy god, i cant stand it. MKV files are just pointless, just give me a damn AVI or MPEG. i search for a converter for these MKV files and i either get that riverpast thing up (which is some fucking shite tutorial - i ended up with an ogg audio stream from it :S) or i end up more pissed pff - which i think is the real issue here. I’m tired and i’m fed up of trawling through sites like this to try and solve a problem i won’t be able to do. I’m actually being forced into not breaking the law and buying the DVD. See you all later, i hope you all burn in hell with all of your fancy windows 2000 pc’s. Yes, i have a 9GB hardrive and windows 98. kill me now. bye. reply

@ Loner : There is a pack called 'RealAlternative' for this .... Google is your friend.

@ Fuck This : If you would have invested the time it took you to search the whole internet for brand new, modern software running on a long time abandoned operating system, and the time to write this statement of frustration to deliver Pizza instead, you would have the money to buy a new PC with Windows XP already. As a last method to get this working (it probably won’t, as your CPU is anyhow too weak to play modern videos), go trying the great VLC player from http://videolan.org or the win32 compile of TCPMP, The Core Pocket Mediaplayer (both are not DShow based, the latter using only minimal CPU).

Thanks for the prompt response ChristianHJW.

But my problem is i dont have the luxury of using any other software other than the Windows Media Player, and still i need to play the real player files!
So i want to have some solution that fulfills this requirement.

again “need a solution that can play real player files with the windows media Player”

again waiting for the reply............... :( reply

@ Loner : Real Alternative is exactly doing that. The MPC player in the pack is only an option, after installation of the pack the Real files will play fine in WMP, or more precise, in ANY DirectShow based mediaplayer.

@ gigagrub2 : Why should anybody here feel inclined to help you if you are too lazy to tell us exactly what you have tried, and why it failed ?

Try WinRAR. reply

Hey, I have those same files Someone. And, what I did was added .rar to the end of them, but it was unsuccessful. Then I replaced 'rar' with 'avi', which in fact worked. Just add ".avi” to the end of each of the files. I know, it’s tedious but use the keyboard and copy/paste technique and it will be quick! Email me sometime Someone, soham.gandhi@gmail.com
