Hey, I downloaded some .mkv files and I can’t get them to play right. I’ve tried out a ton of different players but some work when others don’t. But lately the screen has been grey and all I get is audio. Can anyone help me out? reply

Have you tried some of the suggestions given in this thread already ? like using matroskadiag.exe ?

Well, I got a problem with a .mkv-file i dounloaded lately. Both, VLC and Media Player Classic can play it, so far so good. The proble is just that the ratio in VLC is wrong (and obviously fixed) and the MPlayer Classic won’t display the subtitles, though the VLC does. However, MPlayer Classic does show the correct ratio, but i understand jackshit...
Anyone help me please. reply

:sigh: .... how can people expect to be helped, when they are too lazy to give A LITTLE BIT MORE INFORMATION !!!

Do you have one of the matroska packs installed ? if so, what version ? If MPC won’t play the files with subs, you are likely missing vsfilter (DVobSub, its included in both the 'lite' and the 'full' pack http://packs.matroska.org ) on your PC, or you told it to 'never show' when watching another movie with subs earlier, so it can not be loaded.

a little more information??
I posted what to do,almost step by step somewhere earlier on this topic,it’s not my fault folks always scroll to the last 5 posts & don’t bother to read the rest

so here goes one last time

1)uninstall your codecs(you can do it from add/remove progs, but this is the proper way:

http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=17669

2)get the latest CCCP here:

http://www.kickassanime.org/wiki/index.php?title=CCCP

and don’t just install it,but READ THE SITE,it’s all there

3)use MPC(Media Player Classic)to play your mkv/h264/mp4.some other players also support them, but mpc ALWAYS works

4)if you really think you need em,get the windows media codecs(WMV/WMA)here:

http://www.divxland.org/software.php

5)check the CCCP site once a month for the next version & if there is one,get it & install it

6)your codecs now only take 11 meg on your HD(which is a good thing considering the 40to 60 meg most of the 'packs' are

7)from now on you are able to open any video/audiofile

8)enjoy

@ Don Reaper :

Is this an old Windows installation by chance ? To me it sounds like you are having the old G400 filter on your PC still, which was done originally to overcome problems with older video cards and been shipped with the DivX 3.11a DirectShow decoder.

Google for 'graphedit.exe' (a Microsoft tool made for DirectShow diagnosis), run it and do a 'file' 'render media file' on your MKV file.

Do a screenshot of the playback graph you are seeing for your MKV file and send it to matroska-users AT lists DOT matroska DOT org

OK... don’t need a different thread if it’s about the same thing... i have a .mkv file with the h264 mpeg10 codec... however when i install the matroska codec pack... or even k-lite codec pack full... the file isn’t played on MPC or Zoomplayer, and on the VLC player the video doesn’t show... if i try to play it on xbox media center.. it works but really slow... so i guess that even if i do find the codecs it won’t play very good on my pc... so is there a way to convert the .mkv to .avi and ofcourse from h264 to xvid or other...?..

if there isn’t, can anyone give me some link to play the file correcly?.... reply

Omg.. why....?

I tried to play .mkv format file more than 300000 times and it still doesn’t work!!

I’ve been downloading whole bunch of codecs that u guys told me and nothing worked!!

All the media players recommended also didn’t work.

I downloaded this Chobits Cannot play back the file. The format is not supported.]

and media player tells me

]Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.]

and Classic one tells me that it cannot render the file... What am I suppose to do now!!?

I seriously don’t want to download all this crap again and i want to get over this.

Are there anything related to this title of a anime? or codecs are going wrong?

[i used all the players like i said suck as Jet Audio, Zoom player and all the other shit!!] reply
