Well Roldy,

Download mkvtoolnix.
http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/downloads.html

then, it has a way to edit the files, best way if you’re trying to get a certain bit of the video, is to cut it by time, as it’s not like virtual dub, or virtual Dub mod.

After getting the right pieces it can put them back together for a single video/audio clip.

Only other solution is to convert it to an .avi file.

Super converter can do it.

hi i wanted to know if it is possible yo remove subtitles while converting from .mkv to .avi ?? reply

Yes.
Open MKVToolnix, inser the file into the input field.

Look below to see the files within the video container.

If there are subtitles in the box, then uncheck them, and mux the video.

If there’s only an audio and video stream, then NO.

As that means the subtitles are hardcoded into the video stream meaning, the subtitles are part of the video. reply

simple as that. Easy to use and very simple for noob’s of all kinds.

Someone helped me find this when I was having the same problem. reply

MKVExtract is giving you what error?

The video could be corrupt, the video could have more frames than it claims, the video could have been converted incorrectly, it could be a lot of things.

Try extracting the two separately. reply

You all do know that basically you’re changing a container and not a video format?

You can demux the video with MKVextract (comes with mkvtoolnix) and then remux with an avi demux (It muxes too), or another muxing program reply

sorry I’m not entirely sure how old this thread is either, but I’m hoping I’ll be able to figure it out.

I understand the directions, but i’m having a problem getting the MKVextractGUI file. when i downloaded MKVtoolnix, it didn’t come with MKVextract, and the link that QBall gives doesn’t work (on my computer?)... reply

why could they just stick to avi and be done with it :S reply

I agree T_T;

I’ve found various mkv to avi things, several that work ok, but none that give me the subtitles too.

I’ve tried to redownload mkvtoolsnic again, in hopes that it would add mkvextract, but it doesn’t seem to. Is mkvextract a button in attatchment to mkvinfo, rather than a seperate program? Is there anyway I can get it downloaded? Or do you know of any other program that switches mkv to avi, with the subtitles? reply

Feedback

OK,

Download from here. Choose your operating system and download the program.

Install and go to the installation directory.

MKVextract should be there.

Extract the contents of the MKVExtractGUI Wizard .zip file into that directory. reply
