I had the problem of being able to watch and hear the video files but the 16:9 was compressed into 4:3. Finally, using the latest version of SDCopy, I was able to rename the MOD file to MPG and set the Aspect Flag to 16:9. Works Great! reply

Hi guys I see that this thread is seriously over-populated with ways to change the extension type of the files however no-one has mentioned a way to get these files to work in Windows Movie Maker.

This is all I need to know, how can I get these files to work in Movie Maker?

Please explain this to me simply in steps. reply

Found an easy solution for converting mod files. Get Windows 7 and download the new version of Windows Movie Maker, drag the mod file into it and edit away. Then save your movie to wmv. reply

I’ve had similar issues. Changing filename to .MPG allows you to view with sound in VLC player, but no sound in Media Player. Won’t burn to DVD for love nor money..

There is simple yet drastic solution. Buy a Mac. If you’re serious about video editing it’s what you need anyway. I spent hours on the pc what took minutes on a borrowed Mac. There’s a program for the Mac called MPEG streamclip (free download). Simply pop the .MOD files in and you can convert to .mov or .avi or whatever you want. It then pastes into Final Cut Pro (sadly not a free download) beautifully and you can edit the footage to a professional standard.

If you can’t afford one (still saving up for my own), then borrow a friends for the afternoon for conversion. then go back to your pc and edit on Movie Maker. I’m not a snob - I made 3 music videos on Music Maker and it’s a great program for starting out, but there’s a reason why a Mac with Final Cut Pro is the industry standard for film and tv. Hope that’s of some help. reply

I dont need to edit my movies, I anly want to burn them onto a DVD so I can play them on a DVD player. The software that comes with my everio lets me do this but when i play the DVD on a sand alone DVD player there is about a 2-3 second delay between each scene. When I play the DVD on my PC it is fine. Any ideas how to remove the delay so that it works smooth on a stand alone DVD player? reply

What if it is a read only and it won’t let you change the extension name? I also went into properties and it won’t let me make it so it is not read only. reply

Hi, I had the same problem with the mod files and got a few solutions that have worked for me.
If you only want to see the videos, download VLC media player, the latest version, which is free. It will work perfect.
If you want to edit them two more options.
1st, download Ashampoo, which is free,it will ask you to register and it will say that it is a trial version but it works fine and after the trial period it gives a new code to keep forever without paying. Or it did with me at least.

with this program i convert files in quick time which are readable in premiere to edit

or check these detailed instructions which a friend sent to me to use these free programmes.
dvdpatcher or sdcopy

If You’re in windows you can rename a file with these steps:
1. Open the explorer window where your files exist
2. Select the Tools >> Folder Options menu item
3. Click the View Tab
4. Uncheck the option to “Hide extensions for known file types”
5. Click “apply to All Folders if you always want to see the file extensions for every file no matter what folder you are in
6. Click ok to accept all changes and close the dialog window
7. You should now see all the file extensions of the files in the current folder
8. Right click on a filename you wish to change and select Rename
9. Rename the file extension to anything you’d like.

Once you’ve done this, you can just right click a file and rename it in seconds. No software required!

This works perfectly reply
