I have been backing up my movies for a while and unfortunately broke the DVD-RW drive that is built in to my HP Pavilion Dv6500 laptop. I recently purchased an external burner (an LG GP08 8x Slim Portable) and none of my disks will play on anything but my computer. I have used DVD Decrypter in the past but I mainly use DVD Shrink with Nero 8. I rarely ran into any problems until I started using this drive. I usually use Sony DVD-R disks but have also tried Verbatim DVD-R disks. I also mainly use my Xbox360’s disk drive to play the disks but they also don’t seem to work on anybody elses dvd player. If anyone can help I will greatly appreciate it.
There could be a few problems here so I’ll list them for you.
1) You could not be removing the copy protection that prevents duplicates from working correctly
2) You could be partially removing portions of the copy protection, leaving bits for the players to try and decode, which causes errors
3) You could be burning PAL to disc and trying to play them on NTSC drives or vice versa.
4) THe burning could fail or the media could be slightly damaged.
5) You could require DVD+R for the DVD players instead of DVD-R.
To check some of the possible problems, try placing the disc into your drive and running anyDVD to check for Region coding, DVD protection, and possible problems.
If you want to play your dvd on your mac computer, I suggest you copy your dvd to dvd player media file ,which can directly play on apple dvd player.

Do you know what region your country uses?
If not, which country are you in?
I am in the US. I re-installed Nero then DVDShrink. I ran DVDShrink and it was able to find my drive the first time and completely burn the dvd, but when I tried to burn another one it would load the disk but wouldn’t allow me to back it up to my disk drive(only to ISO or my HD). I re-installed Shrink and it let me burn another disk once but the drive disappeared when I tried to back it up again.

Either your cable is loose or you’re having driver issues.
I too use an external DVD drive...
Make sure it’s NOT attached to a hub or USB 1.0 port.
USB 2.0 is what it should be attached to.
Also, make sure it’s powered on before you power on your system.
Are you on a Macintosh, Linux, or Windows based PC?
