I created a video on Vista movie maker from my Sony Handycam on a Toshiba notebook. I cannot play it on my Dell notebook even though it has the same version of movie maker. Interestingly I created the same video on the Dell and it will not play on the Toshiba. Any ideas?

I have a hypothesis about this: perhaps the Vista movie was in VC-1.
To check go to http://avicodec.duby.info and feed the file into it. Does the fourcc says WVC1?
If that’s the case, get the codec from here http://www.moviecodec.com/downloads/306d.html (originally taken from the Microsoft site - but they took it down because they want to force people to use Windows Media Player 11 which requires genuine advantage).
If it says you need the Windows Media Format SDK 9.5, get it from here
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsmedia/bb190309.aspx (scroll down to where it says “Older Windows Media Downloads”)
If all else fails just get Windows Media Player 11 from here
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/AllDownloads.aspx
