Windows Media Player Wont Play "mpeg" Movie File

if you have the files but they wont play on any media player you can change the type of file they are by going to my documents\tools\folder options and then uncheck the box that says “hide extensions for known file types” then all the files will have ".???" at the end of the names. you can then change the type by renaming the last three letters to WMA, MP3, AVI, ect. hope this will help.

same with me , my media player 10 could not play my mpeg file.. i upgraded to version 11.. still could not fix it, till i un-install the samsung PC studio

I recieved some files from a friend. And they play fine on wmp but when I go to edit them on honestech or even quicktime it won’t open saying that my files are are not video files. I don’t know what to do. And have no clue on how to convert them. :/ Please help.

I had problem with playing Video files, after changing OS on my Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop from Windows Vista to Windows XP Pro.

After installing DivX free download (got the link in this forum), able to play all the video files. Best tool fixed the issue.

ive got the same mpg/mpeg file problem, they wont play on wmp11, but i aint got samsung pc studio installed or ive have had, anyone got any more ideas

This is for those of you who are having problems with the picture not playing on your video files with WMP 11 and DO NOT have SAMSUNG installed:
I had the same problem. When I first downloaded WMP 11, it played everything fine. I uninstalled some things and now it doesn’t play the pictures.
What I found out, was one of the programs I uninstalled was all my DIVX stuff. Download the lastest free version DIVX player on DIVX.com. I did and now WMP 11 works fine.
Hopefully this will help some of you too!

I have absolutely pulled my hair out over the last few weeks trying to get mpegs to play on anything, then I stumble across these items about Samsung pc studio.I uninstall it and eureka EVERYTHING NOW WORKS FINE.THANKS A MILLION.

The only problem is now, despite wmp playing mpeg files, i can’t enlarge the image to fit the screen No idea why

My windows media player and windows movie maker won’t play .mpg files they say it is corrupted or not valid but ive tried those files on a different computer and they work absolutely fine

Windows media player wont play mpg file but same file will play in divx also same file will play in another computer. Media player opens file and stays still on start. I have avg pro installed. Any ideas? Thank you.

I have just fixed the same problem on my PC, i went through all the codec stuff also but it turned out to be a conflict with another program, in this case it was “samsung phone suite”

WELL IAM GOING NUTS ! I CANNOT PLAY MY MPEG FILES ! WHAT SEEM TO BE TEH PROBLEM HERE ? WE ALL SEEM TO NOT KNOW HOW TO HELP EACH OTHER ! LOL MAYBE WE CN COME UP WITH AN IDEA AND BUILD A SOFTWARE THAT PLAYS ALL WM WV MPEG AND CRAPS LIKE THAT ! LOL

I’ll make it as clear as possible:
I have Window’s Vista Home Premium
And Window’s Media Player 11.
It will not play any MPEG’S from Yahoo! Video Etc.
Can anyone help?
I tried installing the lastest verision of DIVX and I still could not play any MPEG’S and other file formats from Yahoo! Video.
Please, any bright ideas?

go to this site and download the codec. i did install it and it solves my problems. Media player 11 and Real-Player working fine.

I just got a new computer running windows vista home premium, and windows media player 11 wont play my avi or mpeg files. its really odd. Does anyone have any ideas?
