what do i use to convert quicktime mov. file to an mpeg or anything compatible with windows movie maker
please help =)

is the an encoder that i use?

The file C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\My Pictures\Kodak Pictures\2008-01-10\100_0330.mov is not a supported file type, and it cannot be imported into Windows Movie Maker.

The most straightforward way to do this is to get QuickTime Alternative. It has a DirectShow filter that allows QuickTime files to be played under Windows Media Player. That filter should also allow them to be read by Movie Maker. It doesn’t work 100% of the time though. If it doesn’t you may need to make an intermediate conversion.
For conversion to MPEG, you can use TMPGEnc (the download to the free version is at the TOP of the page, after you select your language). You’ll also need to download the QuickTime plugin for TMPGEnc. Just extract it to the same folder you extracted TMPGEnc to. Once you’ve converted the mov file to mpg, you can feed it into Movie Maker.
Another way is to convert the file to AVI first. For that you can use RAD Video Tools. Click convert a file, select your file, select output type = AVI. During conversion you might want to select a codec other than full frames (uncompressed) otherwise your AVI will be humongous. (Preferrably select a lossless codec otherwise adjust the settings by clicking the configure button for maximum quality, so that there’s as little loss of quality as possible). Once you get your AVI, feed it into Movie Maker.
