i have some videos that work perfectly on media player but i cant open it on virtual dub.. it has this error that says “couldnt decompressor for format 'dvsd' (unknown)... VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows(VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. Direct Show codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable."
Where can i find this codec?

Microsoft’s dvsd decoder is DirectShow only and as your error message states, VirtualDub only works with Video for Windows codecs.
For editing you can try getting third-party decoders. Here’s a few
Panasonic DV: http://users.tpg.com.au/mtam/install_panvfwdv.htm
Canopus DV: http://www.canopus.us/US/Products/index/products_software_utilities_plug-ins.asp
MainConcept has one at the bottom of this page: http://www.mainconcept.com/downloads.shtml
You may find more by googling.
