You can manually reconstruct the steps it took me to extract it:
1) Go to this website:
http://www.mustek.com/download/driv_ibd/english/gsmartmini2.html
2) Click on the Windows 98/ME/2000 driver last updated on 09-09-02 and download the following files:
ftp://128.121.112.104/pub/Mini2/98-2k/web.EXE
ftp://128.121.112.104/pub/Mini2/98-2k/web.W02
3) Install the web.exe camera driver to your computer.
4) Don’t reboot.
5) The Sp5x_32.dll file will already be in your C:\windows\system directory.
6) Add the following line to the [drivers32] section of the system.ini file:
vidc.SP54=Sp5x_32.dll
This idiotic codec isn’t worth all of this effort, but at least I can now get my SP54 encoded AVI’s to now run in Windows. Next up try to find drivers for this codec for the MAC and Linux...
How can I apply this codec to Win XP? The Mustec website gives a XP installer for the codec but it relies on the “new hardware wizard” to install the files from the windows/temp directory.
Hope you can help.
David.
Hey Guys ... I never know how many replies I would get for figuring out how to get this dumb codec working. For various reasons, I don’t have Windows 2000, or XP running on any of my computers at home, but that didn’t stop many people from emailing me on how to get the SP54 codec to work in XP. Fortunately one of the people I have corresponded with I think figured it out. Befoire I post his fix, if peopel aren’t familiar with the windows registry and have never edited it, here is a good chance to bruch up:

The guy who figured out how to get the SP54 codec to work in XP name is Yudhi Yulius and here is his fix:
1. You should be able to download the files needed for 2000/XP from the webside:
http://www.mustek.com/download/driv_ibd/english/gsmartmini2.html
I had to run the XPDriver.EXE file to extract the SP5X32.dll file
2. Copy the SP5X32.dll file into C:\Windows\System\ or C:\winnt\system directory
3. Go to Registry Editor (click Start - Run - type in “regedit”
4. In the Registry Editor, go to
HKEY_Local_Machine\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32\
5. You’ll see three columns: Name - Type - Data.
6. Right click on the window, and choose “New - String Value”
7. Rename the string value as “VIDC.SP54”.
8. Right click on the string value “VIDC.SP54”, and choose “Modify”
9. Type in “SP5X32.dll”
I think this should fix it.
Hope this helpos anyone in the future who has this question.
Thanks!

Hi Spatch Rabbit,
Thanks for speedy reply. Have done exactly as instructed but still no luck. Irfanview still reports a windows error text saying there is no driver loaded on the system. I have checked that the name of the .dll file and the Reg String are the same (sp5x_32.dll) and rebooted. Have you got a direct line to Yudhi Yulius - perhaps we could correspond.
