play .mpg format but reduce my ram.why?

I use my computer as controller for my full color board. then when i play .pg format, every time the file repeat, my capacity ram will reduce.Then when let its play in three days, my computer is hang. i don’t know why?can you help me. please tell me the best codec for mpg format or any setting at codec to control using ram.
