Has anyone had any experience copying .mpg files to the PRG001 folder on their JVC Everio and playing them on the camera?

I copied EXAMPLE.MPG to the folder on my camera (i own a GZ-MG40) and changed the file name to to MOV002.MOD. When i boot up the camera, it says that Video Management file is broken, recovery is required. after recovery, the there is no thumbnail. I assumed that was the purpose of the .MOI and i copied another .MOI file and changed the name to MOV002.MOI. After boot up again, the system prompted again for Recovery and after completion, there was a thumbnail. The problem is, the video file will play but with no sound.

Does the .MPG file need to be converted to .MOD first? Can you convert a .MPG to .MOD? Has anyone tried playing different .MPG movie files on their camera or have any experience gettting this to work?

Thanks,

Phil

I have just purchased a JVC camcorder. It came with software on CD. When downloaded to computer, i burned the files by just dragging and dropping to the dvd drive, but they only played on computer but did not play on dvd player.I then tried the DVD software that came with the camcorder. THey burned the dvd but only let me burn max of 98 files. THis played on the dvd player, but with a limit of 98 files it was such a waste because it didn’t fill the dvd.

I own the hard disk cmcorder GZ-MG27U, and downloaded the software onto my computer that has been subssequently formated inaddition I have inadvertently misplaced the software that came with the camera,is there a web site where I can go to, and download the software needed so I can fully utilize the camera, and how do I navigate to it, or is my only alternative a purchase of a new one.

Thanks for any help

I have had my camera for about 2 years now and i got this to work once. I have a different model it think but it should still work. When you open your everio don’t try to put the files into the SD_video then PRG00(number). you want to put it into the EXTMOV i believe i am working on it right now. I will post back in like 20 minutes to tell you if i got it.

personally, i think you shoudnt be copying video files to your Everio. i havent tried that, im afraid ill coruppt its harddrive. but i think that you shpould take a vid about the same filesize as the one you copy in and swap the two files. that way maybe the size encoding on the management (moi) file matches the sive of the file, and the everio will think that the the file hasnt been modified.
(i havent really tried this, but I think it may work...)

Corrupting the hard drive? Riiiight whatever as if dude! trying to create a file to exacly match the same size down to the byte would be quite a challange by itself but to think you could just swap the same size file is wishful thinking.
JVC everio is supposed to play .mpg files!
