yes i have some problems in while watching in video file following error come on the screen in VLC or windows media player7

I have a problem with a movie download. Everytime I try to play the movie I get this Error Messege: CODEC ERROR USE WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER ABORTING VIDEO REDIRECTING TO MICROSOFT CODEC DOWNLOAD PAGE. But when I go to download what I need it still does not play?
The page that it directs you to says to download a program which is free BUT to download that program you need to complete one of 4 quizs/surveys that DO cost money, they arent hackers and they havent planted virus' they are merely being paid to sell/advertise companys products.... yes it is an absolute pain in the arse but dont stress it is not a virus I am working on a way to crack the software
